In case you are wondering why it’s not free per XBox Smart Delivery, remember, this was published by Private Divison, not XBox Games Studios. If you already own the core game plus the two DLC expansions, you can purchase an upgrade for a discounted price. For existing players, this adds another level of replayability.Ī final thing that may help returning players decide if this edition is something worth picking up is its upgrade path. With the cap raised to 99, players can find even more ways to kit out the colonist in their fight against the board. The big addition to the game structure that The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition brings is the increased level cap. The increase to 60fps helps make the player less reliant on the time dilation mechanic to hit those headshots. While the visual improvements may have failed to have a big impact on me, the gameplay felt noticeably smoother than I remembered. I’m running on a standard 1080 display though, so some of the extra shine may have been lost on me there. Overall, the visual improvements were nice but didn’t make the game pop too much more than I remembered it, which is a more a testament to how great the game way when it launched. However, it has been a while since I visited the colony. While I’m sure this is the case, I never noticed anyone behaving in any way that stood out to me. Additionally, one of the features noted by the developer is that there have been added character animations included to bring the characters more to life. The expected elements like higher res graphics, improved performance, and more are all present in this bundle. Most of what The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition brings to the table are technical improvements. With a new generation of hardware on the market, The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition looks to bring all the goodness that has been released, spiffy it up with some new technological advancements and gameplay additions and make it available in one simple package. Four years later and the game has had a follow-up release on the Nintendo Switch, as well as a pair of substantial DLC expansions in Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos. You must own the base game and both DLC to get the cheaper upgrade, so be aware of your personal circumstances when choosing to upgrade.Back in 2019, developer Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Private Division introduced gaming fans to the off-kilter setting of The Outer Worlds. If you only own the base game and just one of the DLC however, you will be up for the full AUD89.95 upgrade price. If you already own the base game and both expansions, the Spacer’s Choice Edition upgrade is available for AUD12.00. If you have never played the game before or only played it on Game Pass, paying AUD89.95 for all of that content is well worth the purchase price (it’s on sale on Steam for AUD71.96, so even better). Purchasing The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition gives you access to the base game and both expansions, Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos. I didn’t notice too much of a difference in the AI’s performance though it was always helpful having them fighting with me, enough to keep taking health off enemies if I needed to dash to cover for a quick heal. However thankfully when I was in combat against multiple foes, I had no issues with the game’s performance, just my lack of aim using a controller. The draw distances were very good being able to see colonies in the distance but turning around fast saw some slight drops in frames. Without tweaking any of the graphics settings on the Xbox Series X, I did experience an occasional drop in framerate in the larger open spaces where we could see in long distances. Then from the first moments you touch down on the planet (poor Hawthorne), the vast open areas have space vistas shining bright and the environment detail is crisp with different types of lush flora and critters bouncing around. The last couple of days I have been playing the game on Xbox Series X and the visual enhancements are noticeable right from character creation. I originally played the game on PC via the Microsoft Store and this version suffered from occasional crashes at the worse times, so I never actually finished the game. With enhancements to The Outer Worlds such as a dynamic weather system, overhauled lighting and environments, improved performance and load times, enhanced details on characters, and an increased level cap, I was excited to jump back into Halcyon colony and cause havoc amongst the marauders with my companion. The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is an enhanced version of the 2019 base game, developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Private Division, and is out now on Xbox, PlayStation and PC.
